Leadership 101 by Bishop Jonathan Masamba
• The action of leading a group of people or an organization
• Inspiring others to do well
• The ability to evaluate and or forecast a long term plan or policy and influence the followers towards the achievement of the said strategy
• Leadership is a process by which a person influences others to accomplish an objective and directs the organization in a way that makes it more cohesive and coherent.
Leadership revolves around vision, ideas, direction, and has more to do with inspiring people as to direction and goals rather than with day to day implementation. He must be able to leverage more than his own capabilities, he must be capable of inspiring other people to do things without actually sitting on top of them with a check list. A leader who is able to draw motivation from every situation that is able to find an infinite source of power within him to keep going forward. A leader who understands that even falling on his face is also going forward.
Simply put leadership is influence this is the main core of a leader without influence a leader becomes a burden not only to himself but to the people he is supposedly leading. A leader understands that he is an influencer not an authoritarian who stands on top of people barking or giving out orders; this leader is also a burden to the people who he is leading. A great leader knows that work is not only done by the followers but by everyone including himself.
King Solomon, a leader synonymous with wisdom, says: “The intelligent man is always open to new ideas. In fact, he looks for them.” Wise leaders are always preparing themselves and their group to meet the future. They create a positive and optimistic approach to support themselves and others. To learn how to lead is largely a matter of getting acquainted with the development we are a part of, constantly seeking knowledge and new information that will move things forward.
Are good leaders born or made?
Are leaders born or made, this is a very important question we have to understand when it comes to understanding the full potential of leadership. Is leadership a gene a trait, is it something inborn in only a few people and the rest don’t poses it or its that leaders are made, developed and processed.
All you need is desire a will power to become an effective leader. Good leaders develop through a never ending process of self study, education, training and experience. Let’s take a look in this in a bit more detail.
